Feigning Ignorance

A status update written by a friend of mine summed up perfectly the sentiments that many seemed to have about the topic: "People are fussing over Whatsapp's blue tick because it no longer gives users the capability of ignoring a person and pretending that the message was never received in the first place. Darn, now I have to reply people and say 'I'm ignoring you'."

While it's great to have easy access to others through IP based communications like WhatsApp, we cannot expect that others will always be free to respond to us right at the very instance that we make contact with them. That is both impractical and unreasonable. We all have schedules to keep and responsibilities at work, school or home that may cause us to ignore our smartphones for certain periods of time.

We should not feel obligated to have to respond to the messages of others immediately all of the time.

Personally, I feel these double blue ticks should not have an impact on any of my existing relationships. I don't think it should affect any of yours either. As long as you're doing far more for the people in your life than merely keeping in touch with them online, you should have nothing to worry about at all.
