Traditional art forms seem to be in vogue this year, where Chinese New Year red packets are concerned. UOB's lace-like red packets are inspired by the art of Chinese paper-cutting.
Said UOB vice-president Jamie Lee: "Singaporeans prefer the traditions of the past brought into the designs of the present. So it made perfect sense to weave the art of paper-cutting into the pattern of our red paper packets."
DBS's red packets feature a boy and girl greeting the new year with auspicious sayings, while POSB's feature mascot Smiley and friends celebrating the festive occasion.
Not to be outdone, OCBC has four different designs in each of its hong bao packets. Hanging off a cherry blossom tree are four items associated with Chinese New Year. They are the pineapple, for wealth and prosperity; jade, for luck; a pouch, which symbolises plentiful wealth; and an oriental fan, to bring good cheer.
